Vapo and Patria enhance their cooperation

Vapo is going to build a heat plant that runs on solid fuel for Patria. The plant is intended for heat production at Patria’s Halli unit in Jämsä. The plant’s current boiler power is 3 megawatts. A further 7 megawatts of backup and maximum load capacity will be constructed.  The heat plant is intended to be completed well before May 2017 when the heat production agreement takes effect. The annual fuel consumption of the heat plant is a somewhat over 17 GWh. The plant is fuelled with domestic wood-based fuel and peat. The solution offers Patria competitive, environmentally friendly and stable heat pricing using domestic fuel.

The total value of the investment is slightly below EUR 3 million. The employment effects are approximately 15 man years during construction and a continuous 10 man years during operations.

Within the same framework, Vapo and Patria have continued the heat supply agreement concerning Nokia’s Linnavuori unit. The Linnavuori heat plant produces heat using a 2-megawatt wood chip boiler and a 3‑megawatt pellet boiler.

Vapo’s Head of Heat and Power Markus Hassinen is pleased that Patria chose Vapo as a partner for both long-term heat properties. “It is especially important to us that our customer relationship with Patria expands and further enhances Vapo’s strong position as an industrial energy solution provider. We aim for the status of the best partner in the industry by producing effective and innovative energy solutions which promote domestic competitiveness. We own and operate over one hundred similar properties, which ensures that Patria receives responsibly generated heat, complete with security of supply and has the use of a competent service organisation to support them in all energy matters.”

Patria’s most significant grounds for concluding the agreements were prior experiences of cooperation and macroeconomic factors. “Factors important to us also included maintenance security and a high rate of domesticity throughout the entire supply chain,” says Patria’s Chief Procurement Officer Juhani Lehmusvirta.
