Neova Group sets out position on EU climate plans
Neova Group has submitted its response to the European Commission’s consultation on the proposed amendment to the EU Climate Law, which sets an ambitious target of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040.
As Europe’s leading peat producer, Neova commits to contributing to the EU’s overarching goal of climate neutrality by 2050. The company’s activities – from growing media and biostimulants to activated carbon, animal feed additives, and renewable energy investments – support climate-resilient and resource-efficient solutions for agriculture, horticulture, and urban environments.
Neova also stresses the importance of using former extraction sites to support the transition. These areas offer excellent potential for renewable energy investments, particularly solar and wind power. To move faster towards the 2040 target, Neova urges the EU and Member States to streamline and accelerate planning and permitting processes for renewable energy projects.
On carbon markets, Neova highlights that the role of international carbon credits should not hold back the development of robust domestic voluntary markets. Neova calls on policymakers to design frameworks that recognise both permanent and temporary removals, especially those achieved through carbon farming.
In its response, Neova also calls for harmonised and transparent monitoring and reporting of land use sector emissions across Member States, stressing that the 90% net emissions reduction target will shape future EU climate policies and sector-specific commitments.
