In January 2012, Neova and the Ministry of the Environment initiated negotiations to sell or exchange of bogs containing significant natural values to areas more suitable for peat production. As a result of the negotiations, a total of 5 140 hectares of bogs have been transferred from Neova to Metsähallitus. The sites are located in different parts of Finland.

In addition, in 2013 and 2017, Neova waived the right to lease a total of 388 hectares of leased areas. The areas are located in southern Finland and complement mire protection.
