Vapo’s Environmental Award Goes to Petri Tähtinen in Oulu

Openness and Cooperation

“The grounds for the recognition included initiative and an uncompromising attitude towards environmental issues, in addition to well-functioning cooperation with the entire personnel and authorities,” says Environmental Director Mia Suominen who presented the award to Mr Tähtinen.

“Petri embodies Vapo’s environmental objectives of expertise, openness and attitude. He has succeeded in motivating others and sharing his know-how with the entire work community, which is evident in the environmental results when observed both inside the company and from the outside in.”

In Northern Finland, nearly 90% of the bogs have been built in the best available manner to begin with. Here, Petri Tähtinen has played a central role in managing the environmental aspects. “Now that Vapo has decided to bring environmental responsibility to a new level by introducing best available water treatment techniques (BAT) to all of its production bogs by the end of 2014, we need people like Petri to keep up the good work,” Ms Suominen continues.

Environmental Matters Opening Dialogue

Specialist Petri Tähtinen appreciates the award he was given: “This is a wonderful recognition from my employer for the efforts put in for the benefit of the environment. Environmental matters include a wide range of issues, with plenty of work to be done on various levels from the work sites to central administration, consultants and research institutions. Efficient water management and good practices provide a reliable basis for dialogue,” Mr Tähtinen states.
