Janne Sankelo appointed as Vapo Oy’s Stakeholder Manager

Janne Sankelo (48) has been appointed as Vapo Oy’s Stakeholder Manager and entrusted with the task of promoting the implementation and funding of Vapo’s Cleantech and bioeconomy projects, as well as acquiring cooperation partners for the projects in Finland and, when possible, abroad. In addition, Sankelo will cooperate with the CEO and the Director of Public Affairs in projects with the aim of promoting the use of domestic fuel, while also improving the employment effect and Finland’s self-sufficiency in energy.

The position is for a  fixed-term, and Sankelo will report to CEO Tomi Yli-Kyyny. Sankelo, Master of Arts (education), is currently deputy chair of the National Coalition Party, and he will take a leave of absence from his work as a principal of special education in Seinäjoki.

According to Vapo Oy’s Managing Director Tomi Yli-Kyyny, one of Vapo’s objectives is to be a central player in both developing various Cleantech and bioeconomy projects in Finland and increasing the market share of domestic energy sources. All of these business areas require cooperation and constant communication among the various stakeholders on both municipal and state level. “I believe that Janne Sankelo, who is well-networked, will be able to help us and the entire sector through his extensive political experience and his knowledge of the field,” Yli-Kyyny states.

“Promoting and appreciating Finnish work has always been extremely important for me. As a member of Vapo Oy’s Supervisory board during the past four years, I have had the opportunity to familiarise myself with the company, and I have been assured of its goals as a responsible player in the field of Finnish energy,” Sankelo states.

With the current condition of Finland’s economy, I consider the measures to improve Finnish employment and Finland’s energy self-sufficiency as crucial: Domestic fuels must replace imported fossil fuels. This will increase tax revenue and improve the employment situation, both of which are essential and worth promoting in all cases in the current economic situation. When I was offered the opportunity to become a part of Vapo’s team and participating in the realisation of these goals, which are rather important to me, the decision was very easy and quick to make,” Sankelo says.
