Our main target is to reduce solid matter, nitrogen and phosphorous effluents in peat harvesting by 75% in Finland by 2025 from 2008 levels.
We have already made significant progress in the last ten years. The water treatment systems in our peat production in all countries are well managed and based on best available techniques (BAT), which will help us to continuously improve our performance to protect the water sources we and the society rely on.
Other key actions:
- Improving water efficiency in all our production, with special focus in reducing water and chemical consumption in our coir production in the Netherlands.
- Improving water efficiency and water retention in our growing media products.
- Developing activated carbon from peat to purify air and water.
